Artichoke Green Globe| 5 Large Plug Plants
Artichoke Green Globe| 5 Large Plug Plants Artichoke Green Globe| Pack of 3 Garden Ready 6cm Peat Pots Artichoke Green Globe| Pack of 3 Garden Ready 6cm Peat Pots

Globe artichokes are grown as an unusual and delicious variety of vegetable as well as ornamental use as they are tall architectural perennial plants and can look outstanding in mixed borders.
Green Globe has silver-green leaves that are quite prickly and produces large heads. It is a reliable variety of artichoke to grow forming up to ten heads per plant once matured. It is eaten before the heads open and flower.
Brookside Nursery Top Tip - Globe artichokes are perennials and if left to flower they are attractive as a source of nectar bees and other beneficial insects so if you can, leave one or two heads for the wildlife in your garden!

Size guide -Pack of 3 Garden Ready 6cm Peat Pots

You will receive a pack of 3 x 6cm garden ready plants that are in Jiffy Biodegradable pots where no extra potting on is needed. You just plant these straight into your hanging baskets or pots and watch them flourish. These are at stronger stage than plug plants. Compost volume is around 6cm deep x 6cm square (at widest part). The foliage height will vary upon variety. *PLEASE NOTE* Image is for illustration purposes only.

Artichokes are not too fussy about soil type if it is free draining but moisture retentive.
Plant out each artichoke at 90cm apart to allow for growth.
Water well throughout the growing season and feed with a general fertiliser such as Phostrogen – All Purpose Soluble Plant Food Fertiliser.
Artichokes are ripe and ready to harvest if the stem is green like the rest of the plant. If it has turned black where the cut is made to harvest, then it is probably overripe so leave it for the wildlife.
In late autumn the top growth can be cut back to ground level and in colder areas will benefit from a layer of straw or mulch to protect the crown of the plant until new growth appears the following spring.
