Broad beans are an easy to grow crop and can be sown twice yearly, once in October/November for June cropping and under cloches from February/March for a later harvest Sow where they are to grow 4cms deep in rows 60cms apart. Space the seeds 20cms apart. Pinch out the growing tip when the first flowers have set to help deter blackfly.
*** Brookside Nursery Top Tip - To deter Black Bean Aphids from infesting your broad bean plants try what is called companion planting. Summer Savory, an aromatic herb, can help to deter blackfly as they cannot smell the beans through the aroma of the Summer Savory.
