Our plug plants are supplied in four sizes; small, medium, large and jumbo plugs....The foliage height will differ depending on variety.
Small Plugs - Trays of 40The most economical way to purchase your plants. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown on a windowsill, or in a greenhouse or conservatory, before planting out ready to flower. Compost volume around 2.3cm deep x 1.3cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm depending on variety)
Medium Plugs - Trays of 20Our brassicas and lettuce are sold as medium plugs. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown for a short while on a windowsill, or in a greenhouse or conservatory, before planting out ready to flower. Compost volume around 3cm deep x 2cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm depending on variety)
Large Plugs - Packs of 5Pot Ready, Large, Healthy plants, individually rooted in large plugs of compost. Ideal for planting into baskets, containers or small areas in the garden. Best results achieved if grown on for a short while in 9cm pots prior to planting out if planting straight into garden borders. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 4cm deep x 3.5cm square. Foliage height 5cm-12cm depending on variety)
Jumbo Plugs - Packs of 3Our premium perennials are supplied as Jumbo plugs. These plans would benefit from potting into large pots (5” upwards”) for a few weeks before planting out in the garden. Compost volume around 5cm deep x 5cm square. Foliage height 5cm-20cm depending on variety)
Using a good quality multi-purpose compost, pot up your plugs into 10cm pots or use the 6 or 9 Pack Cell Plant Trays. Once your Calibrachoa plug plants have been potted on and labelled, water them in well and grow on for 5-6 weeks.
If preferred you can pot on the plugs into hanging baskets, flower bags or pots. Add a slow release plant food like Miracle-Gro Slow Release All Purpose Plant Food to your compost which will give extra nutrients for strong and healthy plant growth.
Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.
Brookside Nursery Top Tip – Calibrachoas do not need deadheading as the plants are considered to be self-cleaning, meaning that the faded flowers readily drop following bloom. To stop Calibrachoa from becoming leggy, you can pinch it back regularly to encourage a more compact growth habit.
