Grown for its spicy hot leaves which can be sown in succession from summer to early autumn. The flavours get hotter as the leaves mature. This leaf stands well in severe cold weather so winter hardy. Pick the leaves as required.

Salad leaf can be grown all the year round; outside in the spring, summer and autumn or under protection during the winter months. They can even be grown on your kitchen windowsill!.

Sow thinly in a prepared seed bed 0.5cm (1/4in) deep in rows 25-30cm (10-12in) apart. Keep soil moist. Sow seed in sucession every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply of fresh young leaves.
