An exotic looking fragrant perennial plant that originates from southern Africa that is grown for the unusual clusters of pineapple-shaped flower heads and basal rosette of burgundy spotted leaves and stems.

The starry flowers are usually white or pale green-white with the most unusual tufts of green bracts that top each cluster, giving the pineapple like appearance of the plant. The flowers are then followed by long-lasting seed pods edged with burgundy.
Eucomis can be treated as a tender conservatory plant or placed in a mild, sheltered sunny spot in the garden. See the advice section for more details on growing.

Once the risk of frost has passed in your area, transfer into their final flowering position. Lift in autumn, unless you are growing them in a mild sunny climate, or at the base of a warm wall and overwinter as you would a dahlia.
