Graceful Gauras can look at their best when grown in a large pot on their own as a statement display, planted in a row as low hedging to border a pathway or in the garden border to enhance other more structured plantings. They are free branching with a compact plant habit and can reach a height and spread of around 45cms.
We love Gaura lindheimeri ‘Sparkle White’, as it is like a party sparkler with its many tiny starry white flowers fizzling in the breeze on long, strong stems above the neat foliage. It flowers early and continues right through until the first frosts. A must for any keen gardener who wants to attract pollinating bees and insects, Gaura lindheimeri ‘Sparkle White’ has been given the RHS “Perfect for pollinators” logo. Good as a cut flower.

Size guide - Pack of 5 Large Plug Plants

Pot Ready, Large, Healthy plants individually rooted in large plugs of compost. Ideal for planting into baskets, containers or small areas in the garden. Best results achieved if grown on for a short while in 9cm/10cm pots prior to planting out if planting straight into garden borders. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 4-5cm deep x 3-4cm square. Foliage height 5cm-12cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.

Pot up Gaura plug plants into a 1ltr plastic pot with multi-purpose compost. Water in well and grow them on in a frost-free environment. Towards the middle/end of May, gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor temperatures over a period of a week then plant them into their final flowering positions once the risk of frost has passed in your area. Water them when newly planted, especially in hot dry weather, although once established they can tolerate some partial shade and drier conditions. Gauras can be treated as perennials but may not always overwinter as the plants need very good drainage to survive winter temperatures, so best to treat as an annual in colder winter regions.

If preferred you can pot on the plugs into hanging baskets, flower bags or pots. Add a slow release plant food like Miracle-Gro Slow Release All Purpose Plant Food  to your compost which will give extra nutrients for strong and healthy plant growth.

Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.

Brookside Nursery Top Tip – Pinching out the first flower buds will ensure that the plant will put its energies into a good root system and foliage growth which will result in a stronger, bushier plant with more flowers.

Long lasting plant for a cottage garden
Tuesday, 5 March 2019  |

This is one of my favourite plants. In Lancashire it can be difficult to carry them over the winter but even treated as an annual it is floriferous, long flowering and dances beautifully in the breeze all summer long.
Can be used in the middle of a cottage border as it is almost a see through plant with its lovely dainty flowers and thin stems. Needs no support, is well behaved and needs little care once planted.
