This outdoor variety of Grape, once established, should give you abundant crops of grapes that can be made into wine or eaten as a dessert grape. Grapevines normally produce a good crop of fruits in around year 3 and the plant you receive is likely to be a 1-year + plant, so patience is required along with the correct pruning techniques.

  • Plant into a large hole that has had well-rotted manure incorporated into the soil to give your grapevine the best possible start.
  • If you are growing your grapevine next to a fence or wall, make a wire framework to tie the plant in.  Vines grow well rambling over trellises and pergolas, but need to be kept in check if you don’t want them to take over.

Year 1 -  Train the main vertical stem by tying in loosely at intervals as the plant grows.

Year 2 – Train some of the side shoots (that grow off the main stem) horizontally and tie them in loosely.

Year 3 – Spurs growing from the horizontal stem can be cut back once a bunch of grapes is formed, so the growth will produce a large bunch of grapes rather than several smaller inferior ones.

  • Harvest the grapes in autumn just as they ripen.
  • Grapevines are deciduous losing their leaves after the first frosts. They will remain dormant during winter and new buds will appear the following spring.
