In a mild winter you may find that the plants do not die back entirely, but usually the growth will die back until the following spring and then regrow. It may be a good idea to label the plants so that you know where and what they are!
Give the plug plants a good soak when they arrive, then pot them up and grow on (as per instructions for perennials) before transferring them into the garden. Dead heading regularly will stop the flowers producing seeds and prolong the overall flowering season.
Coreopsis, also known as tickseed, and Lobelia prefer to be in full sun.
Erysium, Monarda and Gaillardia will tolerate shady parts of the garden.
Monarda are magnets for bees and other beneficial insects.
