Home Guard potatoes were first introduced during the Second World War due to their consistent high yields, great taste and high resistance to scab and spraing. They are a good all rounder as they can be used for boiling, baking and roasting to name a few! Home Guard potatoes are oval, have shallow eyes, with white skins and flesh.
First early seed potatoes have the shortest maturing time from as little as 60 – 110 days. These are often enjoyed as new potatoes because of their thin skins and most varieties are best eaten as soon as they are harvested.
Our 2kg packs contain between 20 to 25 tubers graded 35 to 60 mm.
Here is an idea for the planting and harvesting times for our first early varieties.
|Planting ||Harvesting |
|Early February to March ||Early May* |
|Normal April ||Normal June to July |
* remember harvesting early could lead to smaller potatoes and low yields
