How to Grow Lettuce Plants | Tips & Advice

Where & When to Grow
All lettuce varieties need to be grown in a sunny location in rich soil that retains moisture.

How to Grow
The objective is to grow lettuce quickly so the leaves are crisp and crunchy not tough and leathery. It is best to grow a few plants at a time then more in  succession every two /three weeks. Rake the soil and apply a general fertilizer two weeks be fore planting out Plant from April onwards, 9” apart and keep plants watered and weed free. Protect from birds and slugs.

Harvesting
Pick a few leaves from each plant as soon as large enough and more will grow rather than picking the whole plant. Lettuce can be grown in gro-bag but with the spacing required this is not very economic.
