You will receive a Garden Ready 9cm Pot Hydrangea.  If weather conditions are favourable this can be planted straight into a larger patio pot with good quality compost or into the garden border digging in plenty of organic matter.  If the ground is cold, wet or frosted it may be best to pot on your hydrangea and grow it on for a few weeks before planting out. It can be kept in a cool unheated greenhouse or cold frame.

Established hydrangeas thrive in full sun or semi-shade in moist fertile soils and whilst it is best to water regularly during its first seasons growth to ensure the plant does not dry out, thereafter maintenance is easy.

Leave the flowerheads on the plant during the winter months and when the new shoots appear in spring, cut back the stems to the first pair of healthy buds.

Apply a mulch of either farmyard manure, garden compost or leaf mould in late winter or early spring. If your soil is quite fertile and rich, then an annual fertiliser feed in late winter or early spring should be enough for the season. If your soil is on the lighter, sandier side then feeding will be of greater benefit.  But too much feed will result in more leafy growth at the expense of the flowers so only use it sparingly.
