This most popularly grown marrow is a handsome specimen with its uniform shape and dark green fruit with pale stripes. It has creamy flesh, edible skin & seeds with a mild flavour and is a good source of Vitamins A, C and E.
If you are making a roasted stuffed marrow dish you may want to remove the seeds and just eat the flesh.
Marrow ‘Long Bush Green’ prefers an enriched soil for both the goodness and its water retention qualities, so make sure the area has been thoroughly prepared for best results. Keep plants well-watered throughout the growing season and feed regularly with a proprietary liquid or granular feed.
The fruits can be picked when they reach courgette size from July, or left to mature until they reach approx. 30cm in length. Harvest regularly until around October.
Advice - Pot on your plug plants into individual pots filled with a good quality multi-purpose compost and keep them warm and protected from cold and frost. Harden off gradually before planting out into their growing site in late May or early June (when risk of frost has passed in your area).
