This is one of the best types of butternut squash to grow in the Northern European climate and was bred in the UK.
Butternut Hunter is an extremely popular variety as it is well tried and trusted and was given a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2008 when first introduced.
The average fruit size is usually 800gm to 1kg and the plants will generally give a good yield of 6/7 fruits per plant. The fruits mature up to four weeks earlier than other varieties, are light tan in colour with sweet, succulent bright orange flesh.
Easy to grow in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil, they can be stored for months and last all winter long giving months of great eating.
The flesh is ideal used in soups or roasted in the oven with olive oil.
