Our Plug Plants

Our plug plants are supplied in four sizes; small, medium, large and jumbo plugs....
The foliage height will differ depending on variety.

Small Plugs - Trays of 40
The most economical way to purchase your plants. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown on a windowsill, or in a greenhouse or conservatory, before planting out ready to flower. Compost volume around 2.3cm deep x 1.3cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm depending on variety)

Medium Plugs - Trays of 20
Our brassicas and lettuce are sold as medium plugs. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown for a short while on a windowsill, or in a greenhouse or conservatory, before planting out ready to flower. Compost volume around 3cm deep x 2cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm depending on variety)

Large Plugs - Packs of 5
Pot Ready, Large, Healthy plants, individually rooted in large plugs of compost. Ideal for planting into baskets, containers or small areas in the garden. Best results achieved if grown on for a short while in 9cm pots prior to planting out if planting straight into garden borders. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 4cm deep x 3.5cm square. Foliage height 5cm-12cm depending on variety)

Jumbo  Plugs - Packs of 3
Our premium perennials are supplied as Jumbo plugs. These plans would benefit from potting into large pots (5” upwards”) for a few weeks before planting out in the garden.  Compost volume around 5cm deep x 5cm square. Foliage height 5cm-20cm depending on variety)

This is a tender crop so don’t be tempted to plant them outside if frost is still forecast in your area.  Pot on in individual pots and gradually harden off to outside temperatures.

  • Once planted, young sweetcorn leaves can be munched on by slugs and snails so keep a lookout.
  • Keep weeds at bay too whilst the plants are young.
  • Sweetcorn may well need support if grown in exposed windy sites as they grow in height to around 2metres.  But in most gardens or containers, supports will not be needed.
  • Water well throughout the growing season to help with the production of plump and flavoursome cobs and juicy kernels.
  • A good indication Cobs are ready to pick is when the tassels that come out of the top of the cob turn brown.
