How to Grow Leeks| Tips & Advice
Where & When to Grow
Leeks will grow in any reasonable soil but the richer the better to get the largest crops. Plant out in June when the plants are 8” tall and as thick as a pencil. Rake the soil and apply a general fertilizer one week before planting.
How to Grow
Make holes 6” apart and 6” deep with a dibber, trim off tips of leaves and tips of roots and drop into hole. Carefully fill holes with water to settle plants in. Keep the plants weed free and do not intentionally fill holes but keep the ground watered. Apply a liquid fertilizer occasionally until August / September
Harvesting
Plants can be left in the ground over winter but can be picked anytime once they are large enough. They should be lifted using a fork not pulled out of the ground.
