The most economical way to purchase your plants. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown on before planting out ready to flower. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 2.6cm deep x 1.8cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.

Perennial plants come in hundreds, if not thousands, of varying shapes, sizes and colours and if you are like me, you will always find room for one more in your garden!  They are reliable, hardy plants that breathe life into beds and borders from late spring to late autumn and beyond. These plants are also very attractive to pollinating bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.

  •  Your plugs will benefit from being grown on in 10 pots or cell trays for 4-6 weeks before planting out in their final place.
  • Give them a good soak in tepid water to ensure the roots get a thorough soak.
  • Plant into a good quality multi-purpose compost and water them in.  Pop a label in the pot to remind you what it is.
  • Plant out into the final planting positions after a few weeks when the risk of frost has passed in your area.
  • Planting in groups of 3’s or 5’s will give a good clump of colour as the plants mature.
  • A good spadeful of organic matter popped into the planting hole will get your plants off to really good start.
  • Give them a good drink of water and water regularly during their first year’s growth and feed with a sprinkling of granular slow release fertiliser.

Brookside Nursery Advice to help you get the best from your Armeria plants.

A sunny location in a coastal, windswept site open to the elements has proved that armeria can thrive just about anywhere in the UK, given a sunny location and a free-draining soil.

Once ready for planting out, space them approx. 6-12” (15-30cm) apart to give them room to fully grow and not be overcrowded.

*With a little planning you can have perennial plants in flower for several months of the year - almost all year round in milder areas.
