Globe artichokes are grown as an unusual and delicious variety of vegetable as well as ornamental use as they are tall architectural perennial plants and can look outstanding in mixed borders.Green Globe has silver-green leaves that are quite prickly and produces large heads. It is a reliable variety of artichoke to grow forming up to ten heads per plant once matured. It is eaten before the heads open and flower. Brookside Nursery Top Tip - Globe artichokes are perennials and if left to flower they are attractive as a source of nectar bees and other beneficial insects so if you can, leave one or two heads for the wildlife in your garden!

Pot Ready, Large, Healthy plants individually rooted in large plugs of compost. Ideal for planting into baskets, containers or small areas in the garden. Best results achieved if grown on for a short while in 9cm/10cm pots prior to planting out if planting straight into garden borders. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 4-5cm deep x 3-4cm square. Foliage height 5cm-12cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.
Artichokes are not too fussy about soil type if it is free draining but moisture retentive. Plant out each artichoke at 90cm apart to allow for growth. Water well throughout the growing season and feed with a general fertiliser such as Phostrogen – All Purpose Soluble Plant Food Fertiliser.Artichokes are ripe and ready to harvest if the stem is green like the rest of the plant. If it has turned black where the cut is made to harvest, then it is probably overripe so leave it for the wildlife. In late autumn the top growth can be cut back to ground level and in colder areas will benefit from a layer of straw or mulch to protect the crown of the plant until new growth appears the following spring.
Very well packed and in very good condition when they arrived.Ready to move on into pots and look to have settled in well. Would definitely use this nursery again. Much better in every way to many ofthe bigger names
A little smaller than expected but good healthy plants. I will need to grow them on for six weeks or so before planting out.
Beautifully packed. Now growing very well in pots
The plants arrived just when they were planned to arrive. Ready for planting, the plants were well packed and strong. I will be using Brookside Nursery again.
I have ordered lots of plants online from various sources and to be fair most have been a little disappointing, small and sickly looking mostly. However with these plugs they arrived healthy looking and a good size. Very happy
Really sturdy and have grown on extremely well, will definitely order again
