The market leading variety for the commercial UK Celery plant industry is now available direct to our customers as garden ready plants. This quick growing Celery hybrid has good standing ability, is slow to bolt from early plantings and performs well under difficult spring conditions. Celery Victoria is one of the best-flavoured varieties available. The taste is crisp, clean and succulent. The lightly ribbed stalks maintain an appealing vitamin-rich apple-green colour, changing to white at the base. Grows where traditionally difficult. Plant our 6cm peat pots out after all risk of frost in late spring. Plant 23cm (9") apart each way in blocks not rows in rich well drained soil to which plenty of well-rotted compost has been added. Water copiously in dry spells. Pick the sticks from late July onwards and harvest them all before the frosts. Full variety specific growing instructions are sent out with every order.

This variety of Celery, Victoria, is a more ‘quick to harvest’ vegetable than other varieties and with a late spring planting you could be picking and eating your own home-grown celery by mid-July.
- Prick out and pot on individual plugs and grow on until they are approx. 15cm tall.
- Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well-rotted manure when the bed is empty in the late winter.
- Prior to planting, sprinkle granular general purpose fertiliser to nourish the soil and lightly work in with a fork.
- Harden off the plants before planting outside 20cms apart in blocks rather than rows, water them in well and once planted, apply a mulch of bark to help retain moisture.
- Sprinkle some slug pellets around the base of the plants as slugs and snails love munching on young celery plants.
- Harvest from late July onwards as and when required.
Special requirements – Celery plants can be planted fairly closely together because you are trying to keep the light out help to blanche the stems. As the plants grow bigger you can wrap cardboard around the stalks and tie loosely with garden string to keep the outer stalks whiter.
