Cineraria Silverdust plants make a neat plant with enchanting silver foliage. Cineraria Silverdust are compact plants and ideal for edging your beds and borders, or for planting in containers. It makes a great colour foil for most plants. Looks great when planted with Salvias. They will usually tolerate mild winters and are therefore very useful for planting with winter pansies.

The most economical way to purchase your plants. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown on before planting out ready to flower. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 2.6cm deep x 1.8cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.

Using a good quality multi-purpose compost, pot up your plugs into 10cm pots or 6 cell trays. Once your plug plants have been potted on and labelled, water them in well and grow on for around 5-6 weeks.  Water once the compost starts to dry out.

Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.

Water as necessary giving a liquid feed such as Neudorff Organic Plant Feed as instructed throughout the growing season.

***For packs of 20/40 plug plants gently remove the small plugs from the tray by pushing up from the bottom using a pencil.

Brookside Nursery Advice to help you get the best from your Cineraria plants.

Cineraria is one of the most useful silver foliage leafed plants. The striking foliage can be used to great effect in the garden borders and containers for almost year-round interest.

Being a half hardy perennial, (shrub), in milder areas it can survive over winter even with a slight frost but in most areas of the UK Cineraria is treated as an annual.

Once ready to plant outside, choose a spot that receives full sun to partial shade in fertile well drained soil. Prepare the area prior to planting by mixing slow-release granule fertilizer into the soil.

Space 7" (20cms) apart to allow the plants to grow fully without being overcrowded. Water the plants in well.

When the plants are 4" (10cm) in height they can be pinched out to encourage a bushier habit.

Do not over-water during the growing season. A liquid feed every month will stimulate new leaf growth. Any tiny yellow flowers that appear can be snipped off or left on the plant if you prefer.
