Size guide - Pack of 5 Large Plug Plants
Pot Ready, Large, Healthy plants individually rooted in large plugs of compost. Ideal for planting into baskets, containers or small areas in the garden. Best results achieved if grown on for a short while in 9cm/10cm pots prior to planting out if planting straight into garden borders. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 4-5cm deep x 3-4cm square. Foliage height 5cm-12cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.
Using a good quality multi-purpose compost, pot up your plugs into 13cm pots. Once your plug plants have been potted on and labelled, water them in well and grow on for around 5-6 weeks. Water once the compost starts to dry out.
If preferred you can pot on the plugs into hanging baskets, flower bags or pots. Add a slow release plant food like Miracle-Gro Slow Release All Purpose Plant Food to your compost which will give extra nutrients for strong and healthy plant growth.
Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.
Brookside Nursery Advice to help you get the best from your trailing Geranium plants.
Trailing geraniums are easy to grow and care for which is why they are one of the most popular trailing plants to use in summer hanging baskets, window boxes and patio container displays. They can be in flower over a period of several months, so it is worth taking care of them.
Once ready to plant outside, space around 6" (15cm) apart to allow the plants to grow fully without being overcrowded. The stems of trailing geraniums can be quite brittle so handling them with care when planting up is advisable.
Water in well and feed throughout the height of the season with a high potash feed as this promotes strong blooms. A diluted measure of Tomorite once a week can be used if preferred.
For a 12" or 14" hanging basket 3-5 plants should be sufficient when used with other plants.
If the trailing geranium plants grow too leggy during the summer months, they can be cut back by up to half to create a more bushy and tidier overall look. This will also stimulate a new flush of flowers and keep your display looking good well into autumn.
Remove faded blooms as they go over. Cut with flower snip secateurs or by snapping back with your finger and thumb to the base of the flowering stem. This will encourage more flowers and keep your display looking fresh.
At the end of the flowering season, geraniums can be lifted and put onto the compost heap to rot down.
