Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown for a short while before planting out ready to flower. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 3cm deep x 2cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.
Using a good quality multi-purpose compost, pot up your plugs into 10cm pots. Once your plug plants have been potted on and labelled, water them in well and grow on for around 5-6 weeks. Water once the compost starts to dry out.
If preferred you can pot on the plugs into hanging baskets, flower bags or pots. Add a slow release plant food like Miracle-Gro Slow Release All Purpose Plant Food to your compost which will give extra nutrients for strong and healthy plant growth.
Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.
Water as necessary giving a liquid feed such as Neudorff Organic Plant Feed as instructed throughout the growing season.
***For packs of 20/40 plug plants gently remove the small plugs from the tray by pushing up from the bottom using a pencil.
Maintain a just compost, drying out will cause flower abortion, while wet compost will cause the plant to stretch and reduce flowering. Plants require good light but shade lightly on very bright days to keep flowers above the foliage and prevent leaf burn. Space plants well in their growing environment to avoid stretching.
Good hygiene should be maintained throughout the growing phase. Try not to get the compost too wet and allow the plants as much light as possible. Maintain temperature levels and avoid leaving plants wet late in the day to prevent growth tip abortion. Gradually acclimatise plants to the outside conditions by placing in a sheltered place during the day and bring them back inside at night. Watch out for cold winds as well as pets, birds, mice etc. After all risk of frost has passed they can be left out or planted into their final flowering position for you to enjoy.
Impatiens grow well in semi-shade and make excellent long-lasting summer colour plants in tubs, pots, baskets, pouches as well as beds and borders. They make very good all year round house plants and can be over wintered in a cool room indoors or a frost free greenhouse. Regular feeding about once a week will ensure blooms all summer.
Brookside Nursery Top Tip – Pinching out the first flower buds will ensure that the plant will put its energies into a good root system and foliage growth which will result in a stronger, bushier plant with more flowers.
*** For packs of 40 plug plants gently remove the small plugs from the tray by pushing up from the bottom using a pencil.
Usually, everything I buy from Brookside is very good. Trying Impatience for the first time this year, these plants have not developed well, and remain as very small puny plants, although the flowers are now arriving.
very satisfied with the plants received but disappointed that you could not fulfil the order. This is 2 years running that you have failed to complete the full order. Given that I am now 82 years of age I find my garden a bit much to fill and shall not be ordering from you again. This is not to say that the plants were in any way defective.
Plants arrived at the stated time well packaged and healthy and are now growing on well.
Very pleased with these plugs, they were delivered in very good packaging, and nice healthy plugs which have grown very nice and are now in my garden
very poor seedlings shouldn't have been sent out i have lost at least 20% of the tray for which you have given me loyalty points i usually plant up two small wheelbarrows with these plants but have had to buy in alternatives from elsewhere rating 1
Thank you for your review. Our apologises again and hope this has been resolved to your satisfaction.
Very bad. Should never have been shipped. Only seven plugs had any leaves and even they were withered. Translucent packs used last year excellent. Received refund but after waiting several months I am now without bedding plants at all. Should have received replacements.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you have been disappointed and we are also sorry we were unable to replace.
These plug plants arrived poorly packed via Royal Mail and to be honest only three are currently showing any signs of growing on. Some cells were empty or the plants were completely broken and the rest have failed to grow despite being potted on and kept in heated greenhouse. Brookside have been quick to respond to my contact and a refund given.
Thank you for your review. We hope this matter has been resolved to your satisfaction.
18 out 40 were either too weak to pot on or completely failed to develop when potted on. Many of the others are not currently thriving.Customer Service did agree to credit the Impatiens portion of the order but needed three goes to get this right. This followed on from a notice just before delivery that the lobelia on the order was not good enough to despatch which meant I had then to visit a garden centre to replace them.Subsequently, and too late to complain, I discovered that the verbenas on the order were one pack short. All in all this was a very poor experience, all the more disappointing because last year everything was satisfactory.
Thank you for your reveiw. We are sorry to hear you have been disappointed and will certainly take your points on board.
These arrived in good time and were packaged quite well. Unfortunately because the plants were so small a couple at the edge suffered and weren't salvigable. The others have developed well and are ready to plant out.
Plugs potted on but for 2nd year running I have had poor results. Other plug plants have survived well. Excellent delivery service
