This Jostaberry is a thorn-less hybrid a cross of a blackcurrant and gooseberry. The Jostaberry combines the large fruit from a gooseberry and unique taste and vitamin content of a blackcurrant ,very nutritious! It is a very vigorous, upright bush producing reliable heavy crops of large shiny black berries – double the size of normal blackcurrants, but packed full of flavour with the berries being rich in Vitamin C – excellent for preserves.
Plant Jostaberry (Ribes nidigrolaria) at a distance of 1.5m apart in rows 3-4m apart. They are very resistant to mildew but will require protection against frost. aswell as being resistant to big bud and foliar diseases Fruits appear from early July.
These are 2 year old plants, in the first season of planting these will concentrate on establishing, although you might see some fruit in this year, it will be the following year that you will see plentiful crop.
