African Marigold Inca Mixed has wonderful big double flowers, they have a compact habit and come in a lovely mix of primrose, yellow, gold and orange.

Highly weather tolerant, the colours of the flowers change as the plants age. In cooler spring conditions, the colours are more pronounced and change slower than in warmer conditions.

Plant your plug plants into 10cm pots or packs and grow on with cold weather protection, then plant out once the danger of frost has passed. Full variety specific growing instructions are sent out with every order.

Please Note: Due to the nature of these being sown from seed, we cannot guarantee an equal mix of colour.

The most economical way to purchase your plants. Securely rooted, strong plants in mini-plugs of compost. Will need to be transplanted and grown on before planting out ready to flower. Tender varieties will need protecting from frost. Compost volume around 2.6cm deep x 1.8cm square. Foliage height 1.5cm-5cm (depending on variety). Full growing instructions are provided.

Using a good quality multi-purpose compost, pot up your plugs into 10cm pots or 6 cell trays. Once your plug plants have been potted on and labelled, water them in well and grow on for around 5-6 weeks.  Water once the compost starts to dry out.

These plants can be planted in beds, borders and tubs. Add a slow release plant food like Miracle-Gro Slow Release All Purpose Plant Food  to your compost which will give extra nutrients for strong and healthy plant growth.

Keep plants frost free until mid/late May and then harden off before being placed in their final positions when the risk of frost has passed in your area.

Water as necessary giving a liquid feed such as Neudorff Organic Plant Feed as instructed throughout the growing season.

***For packs of 20/40 plug plants gently remove the small plugs from the tray by pushing up from the bottom using a pencil.

Brookside Nursery Advice help you get the best from your African Marigold plants.

African marigolds, despite their name, come from Mexico where they are classed as half hardy but in the UK climate, are treated as annuals.

Once ready to plant outside, African marigolds prefer a fertile soil in full sun and are more tolerant of dry conditions than French marigolds. Place around 10-12" (25-30cm) apart which will give them plenty of room to grow without being overcrowded.

African marigolds produce large flower heads throughout their long flowering season and the fading flowerheads will benefit from being removed regularly to prolong the flowering season. Water when necessary if conditions stay dry for any length of time and feed regularly but avoid watering the foliage where possible.

At the end of the season, African marigolds can be put onto the compost heap to rot down.
