Greenhouse Ready tomato plants. Our tomato plants are grown in 6cm jiffy biodegradable pots with no extra growing on needed. Just plant the potted tomato plant straight into your desired location, whether that be a grow bag, a 10ltr pot or straight into the ground in the greenhouse and watch them grow and produce abundance of fruit. These are at stronger stage than plug plants but will still need protecting from the cold weather and frost. Compost volume is around 6cm deep x 6cm square (at widest part). Foliage height is between 5-15cm (depending on variety).
Growing your own tomatoes is easy, and we have a range of tried and tested varieties to suit all tastes.
In the UK tomatoes will do best in a greenhouse or conservatory. They can however be grown successfully outside in the right conditions. If you are going to plant your tomatoes outside, wait until the danger of frost has passed. Choose a sunny but sheltered spot, at the front of a south facing wall is ideal.
If you are growing tomatoes in a grow bag, give this a good shake to break up the compacted compost. Make some holes in the bottom of the bag to allow for drainage. Now cut out the pre marked planting holes and scoop out enough compost to allow the tomatoes to be planted. The top of the root ball should be beneath the top of the bag and have a light covering of compost. Firm in your plants and water.
Unless you are growing a bush type tomato, the aim is to create a single stemmed plant. To achieve this your plant will need to be trained up a cane or piece of string. Tie the tomato plant to the cane or string every 10cm (4") To train a single stem, snap out any shoots (side-shoots) that grow in the leaf joints. When your plant has produced 4 sets of trusses, pinch out the growing tip. This should make sure that more of the energy produced by the plant goes into producing fruit.
Tomatoes need a lot of water. Generally they will need watering every day, make sure that they get a good soaking on hot and sunny days. If you are out all day and hot weather is forecast, make sure to open the greenhouse door and windows before going out in the morning.
Once flowers have started to appear, feed with tomato feed around twice a week to ensure the best quality fruit. Before you know it your tomatoes will be ready for picking- enjoy!
Plants arrived in good condition. Always been pleased with condition and price of plants ordered for many years with Brookside.
Plants arrived on time, successfully potted on, and now in permanent place. As promised, plants much improved this year, but I have to say doubling of price was a bit steep.
Arrived in perfect condition and are growing strong and healthy to date they have only been in just over a week
first class plants in great condition
Ordered for my elderly father who normally grows his own from seed but due to illness had not been able to. He was very pleased with the Quality and the packaging of the plants.
The plants were in the postal system for 5 days and arrived looking rather distressed and one had the top pinched out and broken by the packaging. It is 3 days since they arrived and they were soaked overnight and planted the next day and well watered in but they are still looking stressed - hopefully they will bounce back as tomatoes tend to do
These plants are excellent very healthy and very well packed. I would definitely recommend these. they are growing very fast
good quality plants received as always.potted on in the greenhouse and growing rapidly and its only been a week since delivery. this is the best mail order firm to buy your plants from.
