Greenhouse Ready tomato plants. Our tomato plants are grown in 6cm jiffy biodegradable pots with no extra growing on needed. Just plant the potted tomato plant straight into your desired location, whether that be a grow bag, a 10ltr pot or straight into the ground in the greenhouse and watch them grow and produce abundance of fruit. These are at stronger stage than plug plants but will still need protecting from the cold weather and frost. Compost volume is around 6cm deep x 6cm square (at widest part). Foliage height is between 5-15cm (depending on variety).
Growing your own tomatoes is easy, and we have a range of tried and tested varieties to suit all tastes.
In the UK tomatoes will do best in a greenhouse or conservatory. They can however be grown successfully outside in the right conditions. If you are going to plant your tomatoes outside, wait until the danger of frost has passed. Choose a sunny but sheltered spot, at the front of a south facing wall is ideal.
If you are growing tomatoes in a grow bag, give this a good shake to break up the compacted compost. Make some holes in the bottom of the bag to allow for drainage. Now cut out the pre marked planting holes and scoop out enough compost to allow the tomatoes to be planted. The top of the root ball should be beneath the top of the bag and have a light covering of compost. Firm in your plants and water.
Unless you are growing a bush type tomato, the aim is to create a single stemmed plant. To achieve this your plant will need to be trained up a cane or piece of string. Tie the tomato plant to the cane or string every 10cm (4") To train a single stem, snap out any shoots (side-shoots) that grow in the leaf joints. When your plant has produced 4 sets of trusses, pinch out the growing tip. This should make sure that more of the energy produced by the plant goes into producing fruit.
Tomatoes need a lot of water. Generally they will need watering every day, make sure that they get a good soaking on hot and sunny days. If you are out all day and hot weather is forecast, make sure to open the greenhouse door and windows before going out in the morning.
Once flowers have started to appear, feed with tomato feed around twice a week to ensure the best quality fruit. Before you know it your tomatoes will be ready for picking- enjoy!
I have decided to direct all of my allotment orders through Brookside from this point forward. All of this years purchases have been everything I have always wanted especially quality and price. Well done Brookside I will be back.
I purchased various verities of tomatoes which have since been planted and are very healthy plants , the packaging & communication was excellent & I would definitely purchase more plants in the future
Tomato plants arrived on time and in good condition. Are now happily growing away
Received in good order. Well packaged. Start watering on receipt.
Bit early to rate but hopefully will be good.
Super plants, doing really well after arriving two weeks ago. I am expecting a bumper crop, based on their current performance. They were expertly packed, and I particularly appreciate being able to specify a delivery date as I do not have a greenhouse. Thank you for excellent service in such difficult times.
Arrived as promised, good plants, all growing on well
These have grown very sturdily and are 3 or 4 times the size they were on delivery within less than 2 weeks. Should produce lots of tomatoes - well let you know
the plants arrived, battered and broken, I may be able to get one to survive, I am trying. Very disappointed.
