Like its name suggests, Allium ‘Gladiator’ is a giant among alliums, being one of the tallest currently available. It grows to the heady heights of 120cm. Clusters of tiny star-shaped deep pinky/lilac flowers make up the spherical heads (umbels) of Allium ‘Gladiator’ and are perfect if you want to create height and drama to your borders in late spring. Beneficial - pollinating insects and bees are attracted to Alliums and you can watch them buzzing from one tiny flower to the next. If you leave the seed heads on they are brilliant used dried in Christmas floral displays.

Plant the bulbs pointy side up in well-drained fertile soil in a sunny site.
The plants are long-lived and if you plant the bulbs deeply to begin with they will flower for many years. The curled strappy leaves appear first before the flower stalk. Do not be tempted to cut away the leaves as they are helping to put the goodness into next year’s flowers. Once the foliage has turned brown and died back, you can remove it.
NOTE – Ornamental onions are harmful if eaten.
