Hosta 'Rainforest Sunrise' stands as a testament to nature's artistry, compactly forming mounds that peak at about 25cm in height. This plant boasts robust, oval, cupped leaves, highlighted by rich chartreuse to golden-yellow shades, bordered by deep green margins. As summer approaches, particularly in June and July, the plant surprises with stalks that hold fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers, subtly tinted in the palest shades of lavender, verging on white. Originating as a sport of the beloved Hosta 'Maui Buttercups', its acclaim reached new heights when it was honoured as the Hosta of the Year in 2013.
Preferred by many for its lustrous foliage and easy maintenance, Hosta 'Rainforest Sunrise' thrives optimally in moist soil under partial to full shade. For an imposing garden display, consider planting it in prominent groups, accentuating its natural charm. Enhancing the soil with well-rotted compost or leaf mould during planting is crucial since Hostas prefer consistently moist conditions. Come autumn, this plant retreats into dormancy, allowing gardeners to clear away its foliage any time before the middle of spring. A mature Hosta 'Rainforest Sunrise', after gracing a garden for about three to four years, can be effortlessly divided in either spring or autumn.
Planting Tips:
Placement: This Hosta flourishes under partial to full shade, a prime choice for those cooler, shaded sections of your garden.
Soil: Favouring moisture-retentive but well-drained soil, it's recommended to enrich the ground with compost or leaf mould.
